B.C. Taxi Association has eleven directors. Three
directors represent Vancouver Island, one represents Northern
B.C., two represent the Interior of B.C., and five are from
the Lower Mainland. These directors are duly elected
every year at the annual general meeting (AGM). The
association is a non-profit organization, which is duly
registered as per the laws of the land.
The association deals with the Passenger Transportation Board of
British Columbia (TPB), Insurance Corporation of British
Columbia (ICBC), Workers Compensation Board (WCB), local
governments, provincial governments, and the federal
government. The association was instrumental in bringing
Bill-13, which dealt with the exemption of municipality
licensed taxis. We have been successful in our lobbying keeping
the taxi industry in B.C. regulated, so that it can stay
financially viable, and provide a safe, courteous, and
professional taxi service at reasonable rates to the general
public. The deregulation has proven to be a failure,
which serves neither the purpose of the taxi industry or the
interests of the general public (i.e. Seattle's attempt at
deregulation failed and it was subsequently re-regulated).
We are also dedicated to provide excellent service to people
who are physically challenged by increasing the number of
accessible vehicles. (Continued....right panel) |
